As of the latest figures given on May 7:

• Total number of confirmed cases: 134,341 (6,757 active cases)
• New cases since May 5: 722
• Total deaths: 1,602 (seven new deaths)
• Hospitalized cases: 455
• Intensive care: 157
• Total vaccinations: 1,995,496 doses administered (95,868 second doses)
• Cases under public health monitoring: (not available)
• Recovered: 125,799
• Long-term care and assisted-living homes, and acute care facilities currently affected: 7

LATEST NEWS ON COVID-19 IN B.C.

3 p.m. – Health officials are set to share latest figures on COVID-19 in B.C.

Health officials are expected to update the number of COVID-19 cases, deaths and recoveries across the province.

12 a.m.  – B.C. promises more access to pandemic information

Officials have vowed to provide more information on how COVID-19 is affecting specific neighbourhoods after criticism that B.C. is withholding crucial figures from the public.

Despite that, the provincial health officer defended the province’s release of figures, insisting officials release as much information as they can and denying that B.C. falls behind other provinces in terms of transparency.

Dr. Bonnie Henry was responding to a pair of internal B.C. Centre for Disease Control reports leaked to Postmedia News which critics say proves the government is withholding vital COVID-19 information from the public.

The internal weekly reports — each runs over 45 pages — are four times longer than the public weekly reports. They delve into the details of COVID-19 case counts and vaccinations at the neighbourhood level, breakdowns about variants of concern, and more.

12 a.m. –722 new cases, seven deaths on Friday

B.C. health officials reported 722 new COVID-19 cases in the province, as well as seven additional deaths.

The new cases bring the total active cases to 6,757. Out of these, 445 cases are in people hospitalized with COVID-19, 157 of whom are in critical care.

The seven deaths bring the death toll to 1,602 since the start of the pandemic.

More than 2 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered to date.
