As of the latest figures given on Nov. 16:

• Total number of confirmed cases: 213,358 (3,568 active)
• New cases since Nov. 15: 338
• Total deaths: 2,274 (one additional death)
• Hospitalized cases: 376 (stable)
• Intensive care: 107 (down by nine)
• Total vaccinations: 4,204,465 received first dose; 4,023,930 second doses
• Recovered from acute infection: 207,275
• Long-term care and assisted-living homes, and acute care facilities currently affected: 23

Russia reports record daily COVID-19 deaths

Russia on Wednesday reported a new record one-day death toll of 1,247 from COVID-19, a little over a week after most of its regions emerged from a week-long workplace shutdown designed to curb the spread of the virus.

The government coronavirus task force also reported 36,626 new coronavirus cases nationwide in the last 24 hours, including 2,966 in Moscow.


338 new cases, one death

There were 338 new cases of COVID-19 and one more death reported in B.C. on Tuesday.

Of the new cases, nearly half were in Fraser Health, which had 160 positive tests. There were also 57 new cases in Northern Health, 42 in Island Health, 40 in Vancouver Coastal Health and 39 in Interior Health.

The person who died resided in the Fraser Health region.

A new outbreak was declared at Ridge Meadows Hospital.

Officials hopeful arrival of Johnson & Johnson vaccine will mean more vaxxed health workers

B.C.’s provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry hopes the 5,000 doses of Johnson & Johnson vaccine that arrived over the weekend will be used by some of the almost 3,000 health-care workers that remain unvaccinated and therefore cannot work.

Henry said the one-dose J&J shot would allow unvaccinated workers to get back to work after two weeks, and not have to wait the more than one month that would be required with a two-dose regime of Pfizer or Moderna vaccines. There are 2,885 unvaccinated health-care workers in B.C. who are on unpaid leave.

Poland reports 24,239 new COVID-19 cases, highest since April

Poland reported 24,239 new daily COVID-19 infections, health ministry data showed on Wednesday, the highest total since April.

There were also 463 COVID-related deaths reported on Wednesday. Poland, a country of around 38 million people, has reported 3,254,875 cases of the coronavirus and 79,624 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.
